Monarch Airways - Baggage Policy

Monarch Airways: 

Baggage allowance 

  • Each adult or child (excluding infants) receives a free hold baggage allowance up tothe amount stated on their ticket. This is normally 20kg including a handbaggage allowance of 5kg. 

  • One item of hand baggage per person. Maximum weight of any hand baggage must not exceed 5KG or total dimensions of 45cm x 35cm x 16cm. 

  • Premium Cabin customers are entitled to 30kg of hold baggage. 

  • If you are unsure as to your baggage allowance please check your ticket or travel itinerary. 

Excess baggage Any additional hold baggage carried in excess of the above allowances may be subject to excess baggage charges on a per kilo basis. Please note that the maximum single item baggage weight that will be accepted at any of our UK airports is 32kg (70lb). Any single bag weighing more than this will not be accepted at check-in. This restriction has been brought into place by the Airport Authorities following consultation with airlines, handling companies and unions to help reduce the manual handling injuries amongst airport staff. 

Monarch’s current excess baggage rates are set out below: 

  • Shorthaul flights - GBP 5.00 / EUR 8.00 per kilo 

  • Longhaul flights - GBP 7.00 / EUR 12.00 or agreed equivalent in local currency per kilo 

Flights from USA/Dominican Republic/Maldives - USD 12.00 per kilo Note - Longhaul includes Egypt, Kenya, Banjul and Israel 

Excess baggage is accepted subject to hold space and operational capacity. Sports equipment 

It is possible to transport certain items of sports equipment on Monarch flights. Bulky items and golf clubs are subject to additional charges as listed below. 

  • Golf Clubs (Half and Full Sets) - Charged at GBP 15.00 / EUR 24.00 each set (per sector)
    (Carriage of Golf Clubs may be paid for in advance at time of reservation online or by contacting Monarch Reservations - Tel. +44 (0)871 225 3555 (10p per minute - calls from mobiles and other networks may cost more). Alternatively you may pay for the carriage of Golf Clubs at the check-in desk)  

  • Windsurf / Kitesurf boards - Charged at GBP 20.00 / EUR 32.00 each board (per sector) 

  • Surf boards - Charged at GBP 20.00 / EUR 32.00 each board (per sector) 

  • Hang gliders - Charged at GBP 30.00 / EUR 48.00 each (per sector) 

  • Canoes / Kayaks - Charged at GBP 30.00 / EUR 48.00 each (per sector) 

  • Bicycles - Charged at GBP 15.00 / EUR 24.00 each (per sector) 

  • Scuba Dive Equipment - Charged at GBP 15.00 / EUR 24.00 each (per sector) 

  • Skis / Snowboard - Charged atGBP 15.00 / EUR 24.00 each set of skis / board (per sector) 

Note: On certain Monarch Charter Flights (MON flight number prefix) to Egypt and the Maldives only, a free dive equipment allowance may be applicable. This is upon production of a valid Dive Licence/Certificate (PADI or BSAC), passengers carrying dive equipment such as scuba tanks, weight belts and buoyancy control jackets are to be allowed an additional 5kgs baggage allowance free of charge. Any passengers who cannot produce a valid dive certificate or those in excess of this additional allowance are to be charged for any excess baggage carried at the standard per sector rates, as set out above.  scuba/dive equipment 

  • Upon production of a valid Dive Licence/Certificate (PADI or BSAC) passengers carrying dive equipment such as scuba tanks, weight belts and buoyancy control jackets are to be allowed an additional 5kgs baggage allowance free of charge.
